Shaped to Serve

Asbury UMC is growing a Christian community where all people can be shaped into disciples of Jesus, who live to serve God in the world. Our focus is to be “Shaped to Serve” Christ. This happens when we encounter Jesus, embrace the community, and engage in serving others in Jesus’ name.

As part of our regular mission and outreach focus, we donate food and clothing to needy families, build handicap ramps, volunteer at our local Christian thrift stores and soup kitchen, support missionaries and mission trips, send backpacks of food to school children, help at the Hesed House. We invite our community to participate in our Vacation Bible School, Fall Festival (and Trunk-or-Treat), and Breakfast with Santa.

One of our newest partnerships involves the Asbury Resource Center, which opened in the old Asbury School building in Lincolnton in October 2016. The center is a joint collaboration between Asbury United Methodist Church and United Way of Lincoln County, offering clothing and school supplies to Lincoln County students in need.

Often our efforts extend beyond the local community. We send donations to and work at Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky and Honduras, collect shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse, prepare meals for Stop Hunger Now, and collect Shoes for Orphan Souls.

We sponsor a Preschool for two, three and four year old children, Mother’s Morning Out on Thursdays and Fridays, and a Summer Day Camp for first through fifth grade children. The Preschool was envisioned and established by Brenda Hardin in 1989 and provides a nurturing environment for children to learn not only their ABCs and 123s, but also Bible stories and the love of Jesus Christ.
